Let’s talk about homemade biscuits

If you know me personally, there’s a good chance that you know my mother too. And if you know my mother, you are incredibly blessed – even if you don’t know it yet.

Because my mother is quite honestly the best woman I know.

She is brave, and strong, and unwavering, and just the best bit of harsh sometimes.

She is gentle, and kind, and compassionate, and the right amount of soft too though.

In the past 22 years I have watched my mom do what God calls us all to do: love people (and she’s really good at it, y’all).

My mother has given more of herself to other people than anyone I know, and most of the time she did it in the most unassuming ways.

She loves my dad, a lot. Even when my dad is being annoying in the way that only he is (yes, dad, you can be annoying, but we love you anyways), she’ll still kiss him when he asks her to.

My mom technically only has three children; myself, my younger sister, and my older sister. However, throughout the years she has become a mother to so many more. While I was in high school, she earned the moniker Momma Gail among my friends. It’s just who she is.

When I started college, she went back to school to become a registered nurse. It was hard for her, and she will tell you that, but she finished. Now she’s working at a job that she loves, that also allows her passion for sleeping during the day to flourish.

Writing down all that I’ve learned from and love about my mother would take me far longer than I even want to consider.

And because I am trying to keep this at a relatively decent length, here are a few of my favorite things about her:

  1. She makes the best biscuits from scratch.
  2. She has this look that tells you to stop whatever it is you’re doing. When you see that look do not pass go, do not collect $200.
  3. She has seen every episode of Grey’s Anatomy available on Netflix (multiple times).
  4. She specializes in tough love – because if you just drink water, you’ll be fine – but she always, always, always follows up with grace.
  5. She’s loud. So loud.
  6. She loves Jesus more than anything else. And with that love, she taught me Proverbs 4:23.

*Momma, I love you dearly & I thank God for you more than you will ever know. I am absolutely honored to be your daughter.
